“The statement that the dental operation is a long and painful process is outdated,” insists Pekka Aekikainen, chief doctor of the dental clinic Suomen Keinojuuriklinikka, partner of the operator of medical services, Nordic Clinic. “We use methods that completely relieve the patient from the pain during the procedure.”
The clinic provides various dental services for adults, but its strong point is implants. This is an artificial tooth root, on the basis of which the dentist builds a new tooth. On average, about 1,700 such operations are performed at this clinic every year.
The head physician of Suomen Keinojuuriklinikka is a dentist, an oral cavity surgeon with 30 years of experience. In his track record about 30,000 dental implants in place. “For the patient, this treatment process is very simple and fits into two visits,” says Pekka Asikainen. At the first reception, X-rays of the client's jaw are first taken. They show the amount of bone tissue, the placement of the teeth and the location of their roots. This information helps to accurately select the right size implant. Then the doctor discusses the material for the crown frame with the patient and proceeds with the operation. The damaged tooth and its root are removed, the dental structure is installed in place of the latter.
General anesthesia, according to the head physician, is not the best option for anesthesia for such a procedure, since the patient must be connected to a respirator, that is, a breathing hose is supplied to the lungs through the mouth. Such actions are always risky, and the surgeon’s “working platform” is partially occupied.
If, in the patient's opinion, local anesthesia is not enough for him, the doctor uses another method of “sedation” - sedation. According to the head doctor, this option of anesthesia has been practiced in the clinic for more than a dozen years. Its essence is that it relieves pain and soothes the nervous system by intravenous injection of a drug used for general anesthesia. A person relaxes and does not feel fear, but at the same time he responds to the requests of doctors and is able to comment on certain sensations - for example, does something in his mouth interfere with him? He understands everything, but at the end of the procedure he does not remember anything about it. In such conditions, it is easier for the surgeon to work, and therefore the quality of the performed procedure is better. Of course, the use of this method requires a high level of professionalism of the anesthesiologist, who must be able to correctly calculate the dose of sedative, closely monitor the general condition of the patient and monitor performance - blood pressure, pulse rate.
After the procedure, the patient almost immediately comes to his senses, and to get rid of the natural
postoperative pain, it is enough to take a few days usual analgesics.
The next time the patient appears at the doctor in two or three months, when the artificial root takes root.
Then a new tooth - a crown made by a technician rolls on it.
Typically, specialists of the clinic make a crown frame of titanium, zirconium, or a combination of them, e.max ceramics. In rare cases, gold is used. For each tooth, depending on its load, the dentist selects the most suitable material, on which, in turn, the crown manufacturing technique depends. Gold frames (later they are covered with composite plastic) are poured in the traditional way in the form of impressions made from the patient's teeth, while ceramic, titanium and zirconium are made using special equipment - CERRC and Strauinaini devices, automatic design systems consisting of blocks for scanning and milling machine tools.
At the first reception using a camera scanner, a snapshot of the problem area of the oral cavity and the adjacent tooth is taken (for a clear comparison of the bite). Information enters the computer, a special program summarizes the received images, and a three-dimensional model of the patient's jaws appears on the screen of the block. The technician can correct the picture if necessary, and the program will calculate the parameters of the crown with extreme accuracy, taking into account the adjacent teeth, the teeth of the opposite side, the load. A specialist working on the machine sends the three-dimensional image data to
milling machine, which grinds in accordance with them a crown of the selected material, and at the same time both from the outside and from the inside. Then the crown is covered with a thin layer of ceramics. The result is a new tooth that fits perfectly in the mouth.
As many patients of the clinic assure, “dental implantation in fact turned out to be the most pleasant experience compared to other visits to the dentist”.
According to the same technology, fillings are made. The results are excellent: cut by a computer, it hermetically closes the damaged part of the tooth and does not require any modification.
The principle of “everything under one roof” makes it possible to serve patients quickly and efficiently. “We only buy implants,” continues Pekka Asikainen. - The rest - permanent, portable and combined prostheses, crowns, porcelain lamination coatings - are made in our own laboratory. It is always easier to work when the technicians are sitting in the next room. You can easily correct the color, shape, quickly respond to urgent cases. For example, if the front tooth is damaged, we will restore it within four hours. ”
The surgeon is confident that the implant is the optimal solution even if the patient uses a removable denture: on the artificial root, the bridge holds better and fits snugly to the gums.
According to the doctor, an important factor in the success of implantation is the quality of the materials used, in particular the dental construction. Implants are different. The best of them are not felt. The clinic uses artificial dental roots only of the Swiss company Straumann, a pioneer in this field and one of its current world leaders.
She launched the first implants in the 1970s. Its products are still top quality, and clinical studies of the survival rate and strength of artificial dental roots over several decades show the best results. Pekka Asikainen has been cooperating with Straumann since the beginning of his own medical career, and, according to him, neither he nor the patients of the clinic have any complaints about the company. As a material for implants, the Swiss use pure titanium, which is durable, does not cause allergic reactions and easily acquires bone.
In the past few years, special customers have appeared in Suomen Keinojuuriklinikka. The reason for their visits is broken dental constructions, cheap copies of the famous "Swiss". As the dentist explained, copies are made in the USA, South Korea, and Israel. Some dental clinics use these products to reduce the overall cost of the service, but patients who decide to have a tooth cheaper, now have to pay for a second operation.
“I think the number of such clients will only grow,” says the head physician, “although I don’t understand how to save on my own health, because the teeth of the ns are jeans that can be changed every season. All new "components" of our body should be of the highest quality, and the procedure for their replacement should be carried out in appropriate conditions. Often you hear that dental implants were done in a regular dental office and then pain, discomfort, inflammation began.
What else can you expect from an ordinary dentist, who suggests rinsing his mouth with water after removing the tooth root? Straumann is responsible for its products and gives an eternal guarantee on it; we, in turn, guarantee the quality of the surgeon’s work for five years: the human body wears out with age, the bones, including the jaw bones, in which the implant is implanted, become more fragile and thinner. But I can assure you that with a competently performed operation, it will serve you for more than a dozen years. ”
